A psychological suspense novel from Claudine DiScala

When Mountains Crumble

About The Book

About The Book

The past is not lost. It's watching. And it wants her to remember.

Faith Ansley has built a name for herself as a private investigator—sharp, unshakable, and fiercely independent. But when her husband dies under suspicious circumstances, the woman who always finds the answers suddenly has none.

Then the letters arrive. Unsigned. Untraceable. Intimate. They dredge up a life she left behind, old friends she hasn't thought about in years... and a love she never truly escaped.

Juggling the fallout of her husband’s death and the demands of her growing firm, Faith does what she does best—she investigates. But the deeper she digs, the more the lines blur. Who’s reaching out to her, and why now? Is it a grieving admirer, an investigative target from the past taunting her, or something far more personal?

Because the voice in those letters—it knows her. Knows what happened back then. And with every memory that resurfaces, the questions return—dragging with them the quiet guilt of choices she never dared to face.

Some things never let go.
Some letters shouldn’t be read.
And some pasts... aren’t buried at all.

A story that explores the cost of silence.

In this psychological suspense novel, the author has created a unique and complex web of emotions, memory and consequence through a haunting blend of past and present. At its heart lies a powerful question: what happens when we don't confront the emotional wounds we carry? With compassion and unflinching honesty, When Mountains Crumble reveals how the past can unknowingly seep into our relationships, shaping choices and causing a ripple effect that echoes across generations.

With emotionally rich characters and a narrative that dismantles expectations of both romance and mystery, the story draws readers into a suspenseful journey where each revelation resonates on a personal level. It’s both a deep dive and a suspenseful exploration of how love, when left unresolved, becomes both memory and motive—affecting everyone in its wake.

WHAT REVIEWERS ARE SAYING

DiScala has created a suspenseful story, carefully mapping out the plot. She had me fully engrossed and confident in the story's outcome, then stealthily destroyed these assumptions.

MAALIN

You won't peel your eyes off this page turner until the last page. Easily the best story I've read this year.

DiScala is without a doubt a very gifted author.

I loved this book.

KEITH

DiScala demonstrates remarkable skill in crafting a story that had me emotionally invested. Her ability to balance suspense with moments of deep emotional resonance creates a uniquely gripping read.
